Intermedia Unveils New Anti-phishing Features

Intermedia Email Protection delivers enterprise-grade email threat protection to SMBs

We are excited to announce the launch of our new anti-phishing enhancements, integrated within  Intermedia Email Protection. As the sophistication and the overall number of phishing emails continue to grow, businesses need to ensure that their email security includes detection, analysis, and prevention of such attacks. In 2016 alone the number of phishing attacks surpassed 1.2 million1, but office workers are not prepared. While 86% feel confident in their ability to detect phishing emails, the reality is that roughly 1 in 5 has fallen victim2. With ransomware having grown into a $1 billion business, and the prevalence of sophisticated worldwide attacks such as WannaCry3, businesses must prepare for things to get worse, not better.

While it’s the big companies that are making headlines, it’s the smaller businesses that are being taken advantage of by attackers. SMBs are the victims of the majority (60%) of targeted cyberattacks, and are 5x more likely than larger organizations to fall victim to ransomware. But why? Lack of technical and financial resources makes them prime targets. Alex Smith, Intermedia’s Director of Security Products explains:

“Intermedia Email Protection’s sophisticated cybersecurity features help SMBs defend against current and future threats. Paired with Intermedia’s J.D. Power-certified 24/7 support, SMBs get the enterprise-grade protection they need to avoid disruption to their business.”

New Intermedia Email Protection enhancements include:

  • Similar domain check: Helps to identify potential spear-phishing attacks by highlighting domains that closely resemble an organization’s email domain.
  • User impersonation check: Helps identify and eliminate the threat of attackers changing the display name in an attempt to trick the recipient.
  • Suspicious content check: Warns recipient of possible suspicious mail by providing an email content inspection to pinpoint vocabulary and language that might indicate a spear-phishing attack.
  • Tag messages from external senders: Gives an easy way to identify suspicious mail by tagging all messages that originate from outside of the organization.
  • Reply-to check: Helps to prevent social-engineering attacks by identifying any mismatch between the Reply-To address and senders address, warning users of a potential threat.
  • Domain impersonation check: Protects an organization from email domain spoofing and impersonation by determining if the sending domain of an external message is an exact match to a company email domain.

Intermedia Email Protection also comes with Intermedia LinkSafe™ for sophisticated point-of-click protection against malicious URLs that would take readers to known phishing sites.

These Intermedia Email Protection features will be valuable to every mailbox a partner sells and can be sold under their own brand.”
